Building Internal Business Change Capability

Strategic Challenge

Our Central Government Strategic needed to strengthen its internal Business Change (BC) capability to support a wide-ranging transformation portfolio. While senior leaders recognised the importance of embedding BC expertise from the outset of programmes, limited resource availability made it difficult to meet demand. Additionally, there was a strong desire to upskill staff, build flexibility, and encourage cross-organisational exposure.

What we did

Building on previous successful engagements, HM3 was asked to design and deliver a scalable Business Change Bootcamp accessible across the Strategic organisation.

We developed a suite of practical, task-focused training modules delivered as 8 x 1-hour remote sessions, tailored to teach high-impact BC skills without the complexity or cost of large-scale training programmes. Each module included step-by-step guidance, real-world examples, and reusable templates to ensure immediate applicability.

Outcomes Delivered

Rapid Upskilling: Staff from various backgrounds gained essential BC capabilities with minimal disruption to day-to-day responsibilities.
Embedded Support Model: New trainees were supported by HM3 SMEs, creating a 15-strong internal BC pool to support programme delivery.
Cross-functional Benefits: Participants developed new connections, gained broader experience, and helped dismantle internal silos.
Consistency and Quality: Standardised templates and processes fostered a common approach across programmes, reducing delivery risk and reinforcing best practice.
Sustainable Value: The BC Bootcamp became a quarterly fixture, consistently in demand. Its success has led to the development of Business Analysis and Delivery Lead Bootcamps now being rolled out to other areas.
